Hypersonic flight means travelling at at least five times the speed of sound, and one of the main technological obstacles is currently overheating – a new catalyst could help.
The project, which will take several years to complete, will facilitate the introduction of future passenger aircraft and other advanced air mobility solutions. ANRA Technologies can play a leading role in related projects. The company will carry out the related testing and development in the FlyOhio cooperation. This is a programme led by DriveOhio’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) group, involving public, private and academic institutions.
Much has been said about the potential of hydrogen conversion for “green” aviation. Hydrogen, in gaseous form, has a much higher energy density than conventional lithium batteries, offering a direct route to reducing carbon dioxide emissions from aviation.
The Mk-II Aurora aircraft, developed by Dawn Aerospace, is expected to be as reusable as Elon Musk’s space rockets. After years of development work, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Virgin Galactic front man Richard Branson have recently reached the edge of space. They will soon be joined by a lesser known Stefan Powell, whose company is developing a very special flying machine.
Not much is known about the project, which is still in the early stages, but it is certain that the spacecraft will be so big that it will have to be assembled in space.
The industry is increasingly seeing the emergence of niche start-ups using next-generation technology to solve specific airline problems.
