Boeing continues to develop its air taxi

  • Reading Time:2Minutes

Back in October 2017, Boeing dived into the development of flying taxis with a takeover. They seem to be doing very well with the work. AIn recent years, several companies have embarked on developing their own flying car / taxi. That’s what Daimler is spending money on, Bell Company, which makes helicopters for the Airbus and the U.S. military, is thinking about. Moreover, in October 2017, Boeing also announced the development of flying taxis. There are signs that their work is starting to take off, as the company recently announced that they want to focus on further developments and flight tests. Of course, all this does not mean that the self-driving electrical structure is already flying over the city, because for the time being they are beyond vertical take-off, hovering and then landing.

However, this is a significant step forward in terms of testing because the structure has been tested in a form and size that seems final. The flying taxi was not originally developed by Boeing, but was developed by the US Department of Defense’s research department, DARPA, in collaboration with Aurora Flight Sciences. The plans were originally made in March 2016, and in April 2017 a scaled-down copy of the drone could also be tested. However, Boeing liked the plans so much that they decided to buy the Aurora.

When completed, the structure will be able to fly over a range of 80 km. The electric drive was given the electric drive not only because of the environmentally friendly mode of operation, but also because this way the noise level will be much lower. According to Bloomberg, the device will also be a version developed for freight transport, which will have a load capacity of roughly 226 kg. The real question, however, is how it will be possible to operate a fleet of such taxis. You need landing sites for departures and arrivals, which are still being built in a few cities. If the right number of air taxis are produced as planned, the airports will have to keep up with them as well.
