At least according to the CEO of Hyundai. At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the world’s first car that can fly was unveiled, the brainchild of Dutch company PAL-V. Called Liberty, the vehicle uses a 99 horsepower engine on the ground and a 197 horsepower engine in the air.
Slovakia’s Klein Vision has been working for two years on a prototype flying car called the AirCar, and the company’s work appears to be coming to fruition.
Thanks to the development of the drone market, quadrocopters are now being made that can be used as a real means of transport. One of these is the Alauda Airspeeder Mk3 EXA, a flying car created by Alauda Aeronautics under the supervision of the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
The six-person “flying car” will have roughly the same capabilities as the air taxis that are popping up in increasing numbers these days, but there are some significant differences compared to the Volocopter or Lilium.
For the first time, an electric racing car has flown in the Australian desert, and later this year it will be used in Formula 1-based races. The machines can fly at speeds of up to 150-250 kilometres per hour, depending on the terrain, the Guardian reported.
Named J-2000, the flying taxi is expected to fly at a speed of 320 km/h and have a similar range of 320 km. The real excitement is the engine design. Several companies have announced in recent years that they are working on developing flying taxis. In Paris, for example, the Volocopter could soon start testing, but Airbus has also joined the race. Although development is still in full swing, one thing is already apparent: these machines look like enlarged versions of a drone.
