Archer, Midnight’s air taxi to carry passengers in New York from 2025

  • 1Minute

Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi services are expected to be available to passengers in the near future, with companies such as Archer already working on the final version of the Midnight air taxi. These air taxis are designed to provide passengers with comfortable, short-haul transport, with the Midnight eVTOL having a planned range of around 30 kilometres. The taxis will be driven by a human operator, rather than a fully autonomous one, and will be able to carry up to four passengers at a time.

The engineers of the eVTOLs have focused on noise reduction, using propellers that produce noise levels of only 45 decibels, which is equivalent to the noise level heard from above. Archer’s eVTOLs are expected to be used in a joint program with United Airlines to transport passengers to and from New York airport. eVTOL air taxis are expected to be licensed in 2024, with service starting in 2025.
