Airbus manufactured a drone courier

  • Reading Time:1Minute

Airbus Helicopters unveiled its own luggage drone at the University of Singapore. At the presentation, Skyways delivered a postal item. The test period will begin soon, during which time the drone will serve on the campus of the university. University students and staff can deliver packages of 2 to 4 kilograms to each other.

Airbus is working with the university and the post office (SingPost) to build a system that would guarantee the delivery of postal items even in a densely populated metropolitan environment. In addition to the development of the drone, the concept also includes the construction of infrastructure: Airbus would develop docking stations, technologies for unloading and picking up luggage, and security equipment.

Through forward-looking collaboration that will enable successful trial operation, safe and reliable urban parcel delivery will soon become a reality. Airbus is proud to be one of the pioneers in this process-said Alain Flourens, chief engineer at Airbus Helicopters.

In 2016, Airbus began developing self-driving vehicles. The aircraft manufacturer is working on several projects at once: the high-speed Racer helicopter, the unmanned CityAirbus and the Vahana air taxi.
