A drone starting from a drone

  • 1Minute

On March 26, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the U.S. Air Force’s primary scientific research and development center, successfully passed the sixth flight test of the Kratos XQ-58A Valkyrie experimental stealth drone over the Yuma training ground in Arizona. The interesting thing about the test is that for the first time in flight a small ALTIUS-600 reconnaissance drone was launched from the Valkyrie internal gun compartment.

“This is Valkyrie’s sixth flight to open the cargo compartment doors for the first time in flight,” said Alyson Turri, demonstration program manager. “Plus, in addition to demonstrating the separation of two drones in air for the first time, the XQ-58A flew higher and faster than ever before.”

The experiment, which was carried out in collaboration with Kratos UAS and Area-I, proved to be successful and demonstrates the usefulness and potential of high-performance unmanned aerial vehicles.
