General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) has unveiled its latest jet-powered drone, the Gambit, which uses artificial intelligence and autonomous systems to fly alongside human-led fighters and gain air superiority.
A rival to battery-powered electric drones is the Flowcopter, which, powered by a Danfoss-developed hydraulic pump, the Digital Displacement Pump, will be able to carry its cargo over much greater distances than conventional drones, or so the vehicle’s manufacturer promises.
They are already testing a new system in which autonomous flying drones would carry luggage between the coast and the thousands of ships moored in the port at any one time.
Drone technology has become so widespread that for a few hundred dollars, virtually anyone can build a drone capable of reconnaissance or even limited combat, and today more than a hundred countries and many non-state groups have them, experts warn.
The flying machine can do some particularly interesting tricks by quickly lowering and raising its “arms” as needed. The HiPeRLab team of University of California staff and students is pushing the boundaries of drone technology with a series of unique projects. As an example of the increase in warfighting capabilities, the Pentagon has helped develop technology that allows a single person to control 130 drones for military operations.
